The Top 5 Night Markets in Phuket

Jun 18 2024

Are you visiting Phuket during your trip to Thailand? Don't miss out on exploring the city's night markets! Whether you're strolling among the stalls, shopping for crafts and souvenirs, or tasting delicious street food, Thai markets are true institutions where tourists and locals mingle. Let's explore the five best night markets in Phuket.

1. Chillva Night Market, Phuket

If Chillva Market is our favorite night market in Phuket, it's because it stands out from the usual tourist markets. Recently opened and more frequented by locals than foreigners, it's known as the trendiest night market among young Thais.

With a relaxed and festive atmosphere, Chillva Night Market also features shops and bars set up in containers. There's a music stage in the middle of the market and numerous stalls offering both street food and clothing (new or second-hand) and various souvenirs, all at relatively affordable prices!

Address: 141/2 Yaowarat Road, Phuket Town
Opening Hours: Monday to Saturday, 5 PM to 11 PM. Thursday through Saturday is recommended for more stalls and activities.

2. Phuket weekend market (Naka Market or Phuket Chatuchak)

Also known as Naka Market or Phuket Chatuchak (named after Bangkok's famous market), Phuket Weekend Market is the largest night market in Phuket. It's a treasure trove where you can find absolutely everything! Thai people affectionately call it "Talad Tairod," which can be translated as a flea market.

Naka Market includes a covered area offering a wide variety of second-hand items (clothing, trinkets, etc.) and an open area with high-tech gadgets, fashion accessories, jewelry, and a food section. Your senses will be delighted in the food section with colorful and flavorful local dishes like pad Thai, skewers, fried chicken, and mango sticky rice.

Note: It gets crowded and hot, especially in the covered area, so bring water and visit after sunset, starting around 7 PM!

Address: Thalang Rd., Tambon Talat Yai, Amphoe Mueang Phuket, Chang Wat Phuket
Opening Hours: Weekends only, 4 PM to 11 PM

3. Phuket Indy Night Market

Changing the scenery! After the bustling atmosphere of Phuket's largest night market, head to a smaller, peaceful night market: Indy Night Market. Here, you'll find artisanal goods, new and second-hand clothing, and fashion accessories, all set in a lively atmosphere with music, outdoor bars, and sometimes street performances.

But the highlight of this market is undoubtedly its food stalls, which offer excellent value for money! Pad Thai, skewers, fried chicken, mango sticky rice… All the best Thai culinary specialties await you. If you're looking for a less-crowded night market in Phuket where you can stroll and enjoy incredibly tasty food, this is the place!

Address: Limelight Avenue, Phuket Town
Opening Hours: Wednesday to Friday, 4 PM to 10/11 PM

4. Sunday Walking Street Market (or Lard Yai)

Also known as Lardyai (meaning "big market"), the Sunday Walking Street Market is a popular Sunday family gathering spot. During this event, the famous Thalang Road in the heart of Phuket's Old Town becomes pedestrian-only. Like most Thai night markets, it offers a variety of typical dishes and stalls selling souvenirs, crafts, and clothing.

What we love about the Sunday Walking Street Market? Besides shopping and enjoying street food, you get to explore a street with astonishing architecture! The "Sino-Portuguese" style houses with colorful facades blend European and Chinese architectural influences, reflecting Phuket's commercial history during the tin mining era.

Address: Thalang Road, Phuket Old Town
Opening Hours: Every Sunday, 4 PM to 10 PM

5. Malin Plaza Patong

Malin Plaza Patong offers a wide selection of souvenir stalls and food stands that remain manageable in size. Despite the crowd, you can stroll around without feeling crowded. When it comes to shopping, you'll find everything from T-shirts to jeans, beauty products, trinkets, souvenirs, and even high-tech items.

But what really stands out about this market are its numerous street food stalls offering delicious Thai specialties at very affordable prices. Since market food is often tastier and cheaper than at tourist restaurants, we highly recommend visiting!

Address: Prachanukhro Road, Patong
Opening Hours: Daily, 11 a.m. to midnight
